Report on Republican Prisoners in English Jails

Introduction

There are twenty one Republican Prisoners currently in English Jails. They are serving sentences ranging from sixteen to thirty five years and Life. Seven have served twenty one years. One of these is now in Portlaoise and another is in Maghaberry on a work-out scheme. One prisoner is seventy years of age and is the only Republican Prisoner held in Frankland. One prisoner is on dirty protest since November 1995. Five are in solitary confinement and awaiting trial for the Whitemoor escape. They are held in Belmarsh remand prison. Three prisoners in Full Sutton have been awaiting repatriation for several months.
